Emma believes that safe flexibility comes from strength. This workshop consists of two sessions, the first focusing on range of motion in the hips and the second on flexibility of the spine during backbending. Both sessions will be a combination of flow, workshop, and yin postures. The first week is hips. We will start with a flow that emphasizes setting a strong and safe foundation for postures that require a deep internal rotation in the hips. Then, we’ll flow and subsequently workshop postures that require a deep external rotation of the hips. Class will culminate in 25 minutes of supported yin postures that emphasize hip flexibility.
In the second week, we will discuss how to safely develop flexibility for advanced back bending postures. This class will start off with flow that emphasizes strength particularly through the ribs, low back, pelvic floor, and core. We will also do work to open up the quadriceps, lats, and triceps. Then we will workshop advanced backbending postures. Class will culminate in 20 minutes of yin style forward folds and spinal twists to reset the body.
